Il MANIFESTO della community

Matera is not its Sassi, or its palaces. Matera is us, the community that lives there /

Come collaborare:

We are Matera.

Imagine that one day all the citizens in your town are replaced, except you. Even if you were familiar with the streets, the buildings and the squares, you would be a stranger. That town would not be the same. The monuments, the rocks, the caves and the stones that make it up are just a small part of it. A town is the people who live in it. Towns are the greatest invention for producing culture, which is generated by the software flowing in its wrinkles and in its alleys, which rests on its staircases, which fiddles with its walls. This software is made up by the citizens who belong to their town as much as the town belongs to them.

So, Matera is not the Sassi. We are Matera.

It’s time to update the software, to grow up as citizens of Matera and of the world. It’s time to look beyond the Gravina and see Europe, the Mediterranean and the Planet with fresh eyes. It’s time to learn as much as we can and to share the best we have. To rethink ourselves without any fears or preconceptions, but also without losing sight of our identity. If we are Matera, we are the ones who must embark on this path and we are the ones who must get to the end of it and start anew.
The Community is an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed. So you, people from Matera living everywhere in the world, and you, friends of Matera, join our online community! Now we must help Matera 2019 Foundation make the best European Capital of Culture possible and, above all, we must continue along the path undertaken by Matera through its further transformation in ten thousand years of continuous human presence. TOGETHER, let’s bring Matera into 2019, and beyond.

How to collaborate:

Write a project document. Many potentially good ideas may fail if they are not properly thought through. Writing helps clarify our thinking and it allows other people to help us with the evaluation and the improvement of our ideas. MT2019 Community works on written ideas.

A good project document may have several forms, but it must always include answers to three main questions:

  • What do you want to do?
  • Why do you think your group and you are the most qualified people to do it?
  • Which resources do you need and how do you think you will get them?

The proposer will do and set forth the schedule. Every idea, no matter how good it is, needs a leader to be implemented. You are the leader. If you submit a project, you are the person responsible for it. The community will do its best to help you with your project, but you must carry it on and decide what to do and when.

The discussion within each project must comply with the simple rules of netiquette. Matera 2019 Community accepts and supports the principles of the Manifesto of non-hostile communication and invites all users to read it and follow its rules.
